The Infectious Disease Sciences program at Fred Hutch is seeking an Undergraduate Research Intern to learn and work on a research project.

This summer internship will work under the direction of an Infectious Disease Sciences Program faculty member. This student will assist with ongoing research in fungal diagnostics, including investigations related to Aspergillus Galactomannan tests.

Responsibilities

This position will provide an opportunity to learn about research in infectious diseases in immunocompromised hosts. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (fredhutch.org) is a unique place to work, with more than 300 faculty involved in a variety of research goals, working towards the elimination of cancer and related diseases as causes of human suffering and death.

JOB DUTIES

  • Learn laboratory techniques, including performance of Bradford Assays and Aspergillus Galactomannan tests
  • Perform lab experiments under the guidance of the mentor or delegated staff
  • Perform data analysis
  • Writing and review of manuscripts.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must have high-school degree or GED.
  • Must be currently enrolled as undergraduate student in university or community college institution.
  • Applicants must have excellent computer skills, including the ability to use MS Office Suite, including PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an excellent work ethic are required.
  • Applicant must be flexible and able to work independently.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $20.76 to $29.54 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees access to a retirement savings plan, an employee assistance program, paid sick leave (1 hour for every 30 hours worked), and prorated paid holidays (up to 11 days per year).
