General Description
The pharmacy technician will be based at our Duke Regional Outpatient Pharmacy location. The ideal candidate will perform under supervision a variety of routine and advanced technical duties related to preparing and dispensing drugs in accordance with standard procedures and techniques. They must be able to balance efficiency with accuracy, work both independently and as a team in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must demonstrate excellence in customer service and teamwork while ensuring all medication needs and regulatory compliance standards are met. The candidate must model behaviors that exemplify our core values of safety, teamwork, excellence, diversity and integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Experience:
Work requires a minimum of two years of experience as a pharmacy technician plus completion of advanced competencies checklist as documented and approved by the Department of Pharmacy.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
Previous experience in an outpatient, retail/community pharmacy setting required.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:
Pharmacy technician certification is required from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of drug names, basic math, and medical terminology
Excellent customer service skills including prioritizing the needs of patients and multidisciplinary team members while displaying empathy in all interactions to ensure patient satisfaction
Effective oral and written communication skills
Requires critical thinking skills with the ability to implement potential solutions after approval from the pharmacy manager and staff pharmacists
Highly organized with attention to detail
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Knowledge of Epic Willow Ambulatory Pharmacy computer system a plus
Bilingual (English, Spanish) speaking a plus
