Industrial Sewing Machine Operator/Digital Finishing
Manchester, CT 

Allied Printing Services is a full-service commercial and financial printer that has been in operation since 1949 and are a print-media solutions provider in Manchester, CT. We have a robust sheetfed, web, digital press capabilities, the largest bindery/finishing area in New England, mailing, fulfillment, kitting, Print-on-Demand and variable data capabilities. Job Summary: 
The Sewing machine operator is experienced in industrial sized sewing machine setup and maintenance. 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Places spool of thread on spindle of machine and draws thread through machine guides, tensions, and eye of needle.
  • Inserts bobbin into shuttle and draws thread through slot in shuttle wall or draws thread through guide and looper eye.
  • Sew, join, gather, hem, and reinforce materials.  
  • Presses knee lever, depresses pedal, or moves hand lever to raise presser foot or spread feed cups.
  • Positions parts to be joined under presser foot and needle and lowers presser foot.
  • Starts, stops, and controls speed of machine with pedal or knee lever.
  • Guides parts under needle following edges, seams, guides on machine bed or markings on part.
  • Observes stitching to detect defects and notifies supervisor or Sewing Machine Repairer when defects are caused by machine malfunction. 
  • Selects sewing supplies such as binding, braid, cord, piping, tape, thread, welt, Velcro or rope, according to specifications or color of material.
  • Cuts excess thread, weed vinyl, install vinyl graphics, and other finishing duties.   
  • Operate printers, cutters, assemble kits/packages, and file preparation. 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Forklift Driver required (certification is an advantage)
  • Familiarity with measuring tools. 
  • Strong manual dexterity
  • Upholstery and patternmaker a plus
  • Ability to sit 
  • Basic math skills. 
  • Ability to accurately sort, count, and verify items received. 

Education and Experience: 

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

Physical Requirements: Standing- 20%, Walking-10% , Sitting 70%

Job Type: Full Time
Shift Available & Schedule: 1st shift 8:00am-4:00pm
