Position Summary

The Electrical Contracting Estimator is responsible for analyzing project plans and blueprints to accurately determine the cost of electrical systems and installations. This role involves collaborating with engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to prepare competitive bid proposals for residential, commercial, industrial, and utility projects. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills with in-depth industry knowledge to produce precise, cost-effective estimates that align with project requirements and company profitability goals.

Key Responsibilities

Project Analysis

· Review blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications to understand electrical requirements.

· Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracted services.

Cost Estimation

· Develop comprehensive cost estimates using industry-standard software and methodologies.

· Analyze historical data and market trends to forecast costs and identify potential budget risks.

Collaboration

· Work closely with engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information and validate project scope.

· Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to ensure a clear understanding of project conditions.

Bid Preparation

· Compile and present detailed bid proposals and cost analyses to management and clients.

· Negotiate with vendors and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing and ensure quality standards.

Compliance & Documentation

· Ensure all estimates comply with local codes, safety standards, and industry regulations.

· Maintain organized records of bid documentation, pricing models, and project communications.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience in electrical estimating).

· 3-5 years of experience in electrical estimating within the contracting or construction industry.

Technical Skills

· Proficiency with estimation software (e.g., Bluebeam, Accubid, Procore, or similar tools).

· Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Industry Knowledge

· In-depth understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, and applicable codes/regulations.

· Familiarity with construction contracts and bidding processes.

Communication & Organizational Skills

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Certifications

· Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) are a plus.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

· Predominantly office-based with frequent visits to job sites for inspections and project evaluations.

· Occasional travel to attend pre-bid meetings, site tours, and industry conferences.

· Fast-paced work environment requiring attention to detail and strong time management.
